The explosive growth of data in the cloud and enterprise data centers has driven higher performance storage interfaces that can accelerate access to critical applications. Broadcom's pioneering 12Gb/s SAS solution aims to provide the performance and data protection capabilities required for the most demanding next-generation servers and storage platforms. Providing a 6Gb/s SAS solution with up to twice the data transfer rate, 12Gb/s SAS allows the SAS infrastructure to fully utilize PCI Express® through a single controller card; 3.0. MegaRAID SAS 9380-8e, with eight external ports, can provide two 1.2GHz PowerPC® The processor core and a 1-bit DDRIII interface that drives a 72GB cache. The 3108-9380e controller adopts LSI SAS 8 dual core ROC, including the latest PCI Express 3.0 and 12Gb/s SAS technology, designed specifically for configuring external storage enclosures with high-performance SAS hard drives, high-capacity SATA hard drives, or application accelerated solid-state drives (SSDs).

Enterprise Data Protection

Standard support for the most popular RAID levels and attachments, including RAID 5, RAID 6, and Cache Library® The flash protection module further enhances the functionality of MegaRAID SAS 9380-8e for data protection. The new enterprise feature MegaRAID SAS controller adopted at 12Gb/s is an advanced drive diagnostic technology. In a physical situation, the drive fails, is in a masked state, and the MegaRAID controller initiates drive diagnosis to determine if the drive has indeed failed or can be recovered. This saves customers from transient drive failures and unnecessary time, money, and computational time lost in drive returns.

Support for advanced software options

The 12Gb/s MegaRAID controller series is designed to support advanced software to enhance performance and data protection options for system integrators and VARs. These software options can help end users solve critical business problems and challenges, while also helping to achieve higher IT investment returns. Super Disk Array CacheCache® Pro 2.0 software (optional) and MegaRAID Fast path software (included) improve the transactional I/O performance of SSD configurations, while SafeStore™ Software support enhances data protection and security when used with devices that support encryption.
